Private Residence - Albuquerque West Side

Investigation Summary
Date: 12/05/2009
Location: West Side, Albuquerque, NM - Exact location kept private at client's request.
Time: 9pm
Weather: Clear and Cold
Investigators: Steve Kompier, Tom Garringer, Richard Ford

Background
We were contacted to investigate a private home on Albuquerque's west side. This area is comprised of new housing tracts. The family has two small children, a 3 year old and a 1 year old. They moved into the house in March 2009 and have reported the following:

  • A short brown, quick moving, shadow down the hall
  • Children's toys inside the heater air-intake vent
  • Objects missing and then turning up later, in odd places
  • Seeing shadows and streaks of white light near the living room ceiling
  • Hearing their names beings called and it's not either one of them
  • Bangs, running sounds and footsteps

The most interesting report was the discovery of children's toys inside the air intake to the furnace. The only access to this area is through a vent approximately 28" by 16" that is secured by two screws. When the client removed this vent, she found about six of her children's small toys underneath. These toys ranged from small plastic blocks to a small "Happy Meal" stuffed animal. This vent is the only access to the area below the house furnace.

After our initial contact, I suggested that she place these toys somewhere that her two children couldn't reach and see if the objects move or disappear. She place the toys on top of the dryer in the laundry room and the family left for the Thanksgiving weekend to Colorado. They have no pets and the house was empty during their absence. Upon returning home, they found all of the toys on the floor of the laundry room.

Investigation
Based on the area of reported phenomena, we decided to concentrate our investigative efforts on the first floor near the heater intake, laundry room and hallway. These areas are all connected and are about 10 feet apart. I had the client set the toys back on the dryer as close to the same as she had done prior. I place a static night vision camera on the washer and pointed it toward the toys. This would capture any movement during the investigation. We also placed a digital recorder on the washer to backup the video camera's audio.

We used miniDV cameras for the rest of the investigation and placed one on top of an entertainment center in the living room pointed at the area where reports of shadows and lights had occurred.

We conducted an EMF sweep to record baseline readings, all of which were nominal. The room temperature averaged about 62 degrees.

We began an EVP session in the hallway in front of the heater intake and laundry room. During the hallway session we captured the following EVP:

1. We were telling whoever that they can play and have the toys in the laundry room. This was followed by a child's voice saying "Tim".

This was also captured on video.

After the first EVP session in the hallway, we decided to move to the living room. I placed a digital recorder against the air intake and went into the laundry room to see if the toys had moved. While Richard and I were having a discussion in the laundry room, the following EVP was recorded:

2. This EVP was debated as to what is being said. We all heard something different. It may be saying "No fair". Decide for yourself.

We assembled in the living room and started our second EVP session. Since we weren't hearing any responses, I suggested that we try a little provoking to see if we could illicit a response. During this provoking, the recorder that was leaning against the heater intake vent, recorded the following:

3. "Threats not". The voices in the background are myself and another investigator.

Video Results
Aside from the video camera picking up the same EVPs as the digital recorders, no video evidence was recorded.

Investigation Conclusion
Based on the EVPs that were captured, we feel that there is paranormal activity happening. Is the house haunted? Nothing that we witnessed that night would support this. The activity seems to be benign.
