Background
We were contacted to investigate a private home in Moriarty, New Mexico. The location was a single wide manufactured home. Most of the reported activity is centered around the client's 9 year old daughter's bedroom. The daughter was using an mp3 recorder to record herself singing and when she played back the recording, three EVPs were captured. The first was a man speaking spanish saying, "we don't like the girl". The second EVP that was recorded by her says, "she's definately a Queen". The third one consisted of heavy breathing into the microphone. This event has scared the girl to the point that she will not sleep in her bedroom any longer. The client reported the following:
Several EVPs were recorded by daughter
Footsteps heard walking through the kitchen
Bathroom vanity door opening and closing
Wife's hair being brushed by an unseen hand
A child's toy that makes animal sounds when a button is pushed, playing on it's own
Various loud bangs throughout the house
Investigation
After interviewing the client and getting a tour of the location to point out areas of activity, we began our investigation. Due to the fact that there was no visual activity reported, we focused our investigation on capturing audio phenomena. We did shoot miniDV for documentary support. We placed trwo digital recorders in the girls bedroom. Since the bathroom vanity door was heard to open and close on it's own, we place a motioned triggered, infrared still camera in the bathroom. We place two digital recorders in the kitchen area where footsteps have been heard.
We conducted several EVP session using different teams. We asked questions in English and Spanish to try to ellict a response. The results of the EVP provided us with two class A EVPS in addition to two loud sounds that captured in girl's beroom when the room was empty.
Joseph asking "Would you like us to leave?" Answer by man.."Thank you". This EVP was barely above the white noise and is amplified by about 10db.
A man saying "Hey" that was recorded in the kitchen. Were were all in the back bedroom and the only two people in the kitchen area, were the client and his Spansish speaking friend. Both have accents and the EVP is clear, unaccented English.
Empty daughter's bedroom bang sound
Empty daughter's bedroom rattling sound
Investigation Conclusion
Aside from the few EVPs that were captured, no other activity or personal experiences were recorded or noted. Several of us thought we heard the sound of the vanity door opening and closing, but the infra-red motion camera, was not triggered. The evidence that was captured is interesting but not enough to classify the home as haunted nor is there any evidence that would support concern for the family's personal safety.
